Homosexuality
As far as I am concerned this is going to be one of the single greatest debates of the twenty-first century, one which could needlessly entail the tearing apart of society as we know it, which would be a shame as there is little to actually argue about over the issue.
Is it right or wrong? My first question to you is who are You to judge whether it is indecent, morally incorrect or whatever. How straight people put up with homosexual or bi-sexual people is a matter of personal taste or standards, but I would hope that people in this world, or at least in the supposedly Civilised societies of Great Britain and North America, would have the common sense to recognise that we live in a free environment, in democracies where the right of the individual is protected. Anyone who disagrees with homosexuality-fine, that's your decision, your prerogative-that does not give you the right to go around bad mouthing gays and lesbians just because you don't like the idea of it.
There is of course the religious angle-Sodomy is specifically prohibited in the Bible-for all followers of the Bible. Nevertheless, looking at the breakdown of society and the fact that the 10 Commandments, tenets of the Old Testament, are themselves are often flouted, why not this supposed interdiction against homosexuality? I am not trying to disprove 2000 years of religious practice, but i feel a line must be drawn, as religious fundamentalism, which too often involves reading religion far too closely has been shown to be a dangerous thing; Notwithstanding I feel that the reaction of many people to this issue, becoming a piece of the everyday scenery so to speak, is often quite despicable. We have enough trouble on this planet without straight people getting all high and mighty over gay people. To those who disagree-live with it.
Freedom is a right inherent in all people-the right to live their lives the way they choose, or in some cases, as I understand it, as they have to live them. Not being gay I have no idea how it happens, why it happens or what to do when it happens, but I can say this;
As everything does seem attributable to God, even in these increasingly faithless and technological times, surely it is some sort of miracle of creation that it happens at all?
The issue of Marriage rights for gay people is interesting, as that really stirs up sentiment amongst supporters and opponents. This is a continuation in my opinion of certain rights inherent in everyone-gay people should be allowed to marry-a full marriage in the eyes of the law , and if they so want have children as well. What is wrong with that? Nothing-who are we to say that having two parents of the same sex is going to affect a child?
