National Decency?
Today, whilst I was walking past a War Memorial in Stratford, Ontario, I was made sick by what I saw. Some person had decided to immortalize his idiotic nickname or whatever by spraying it in black over the Battle Honours of those who had died in the Great War. What was even worse I suppose was that the local City Council hadn't had the stuff removed, which to me lends credence to the act of vandalism, unless the City of Stratford really wants to let it stand as a monument to desecration of Public Memorials. As far as I can see this is a slur on the memory of those hundred or more men who died fighting for a cause they may or may not have believed in, but they still did it anyway, a lesson which could be heeded by many a person today.
Some people might remember all the draft-dodging in the Vietnam War in the United States, and then think of all the opposition to the War in Iraq today. But remember this; if you don't like what your government is doing then don't break the law. There is a reason we have spent years perfecting the Democratic system and the Parliamentary system of govenment, and that is so evryone has a say. Aways use your vote. Try and get others to make sure they use theirs. A vote not cast is a vote wasted, and in an age where elections are becoming ever more near run things, every vote counts.
