My View Vindicated
Well, reading through The Times today I came across the latest Thunderer and was mildly surprised that someone in that esteemed fount of knowledge had the same view as me that Blair is responsible for Ken Bigley's plight. Mr Samuel however makes it apparent that Blair should act now instead of praying to God to pull him out of the fire. I hereby reproduce Mr Samuel's article, which is of course copyright of The Times.
"YOU CAN tell Tony Blair is in trouble. He has handed government over to a Third Party. The capital letters are intended. The sub-contractor in this case is the Big Fella, the Man Upstairs, Lord God Almighty. Blair very publicly went to church on Sunday and prayed, it was said, for Ken Bigley. Seems like we need an 11th commandment: thou shalt not pass the buck.
You see, Tony, God didn’t get you into this mess and God won’t get you out of it. God hasn’t got the knife to Ken Bigley’s throat, God didn’t create the unholy chaos of postwar Iraq. It was you; always you, specifically, you.
Don’t start looking for guidance now. Don’t start acting as if some guy in a big office down the hall makes all the tough calls. You were not obeying orders like those wretched little grunts with their sick pyramids of naked prisoners. The way you told it, Tony, you were the law, the way, the truth, the life.
World leaders with prayer mats; how screwed-up can you get? Say what you like about Joe Stalin, at least he wasn’t able to lay ten million murders on God’s will. I don’t know who first came up with the phrase collateral damage (during the Korean War, apparently) but you can bet it wasn’t an atheist. That sort of casual recklessness can be the work only of someone who thinks we get to go round again.
Like most of those ordering the fighting, in fact. This war starts with the dream of 67 virgins and a comfy eternity for a gang of pitiless psychopaths and is fuelled by men on both sides who reason that, no matter how insane our behaviour becomes, the righteous ones are still Heaven-bound.
To Hell with them. I don’t want a leader who believes we are off to a better place. Hey, I don’t even want a GP who thinks like that. The guy checking me for tumours should not be viewing my existence as a bus timetable. Miss this one and another lifetime will be along in ten minutes. Drop that bomb and those little brown people will come back as stockbrokers. Or cheerleaders.
The child we sliced in two will score the winning goal in the Cup Final in 2032. He’ll thank us for it later. Now if we all pray for Ken Bigley, maybe they won’t chop his head off.
Give me strength. Or give him strength. Lord, give someone strength to take responsibility, because if we’re back to lighting candles for the human race we might as well have the Devil himself in charge."
This roasting of Blair's actions and belief's will be followed in due course by my own thoughts on religion and it's role in the state and society today.
